Random Acts of Kindness with Dis-Chem

Kidz Clinic receives Random Act of Kindness from Dis-Chem Foundation and 702

The Dis-Chem Foundation and 702 visited Kidz Clinic Boksburg which offers a range of services to abused children.

It is one of two centres run by Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA).

The clinics offer a safe, child-friendly space where teachers, parents, relatives or police officers can bring children who they believe to be victims of abuse or neglect.

Stephen Grootes joined the team visiting the clinic.

The Kidz Clinics assesses each child, approximately 2 000 a year. Social workers integrate play therapy into their sessions with the children.

They conduct forensic medical examinations with a trained nurse when necessary.

Staff work with each child and their family to plot out the best way forward to ensure the child is not only physically safe but is also equipped with coping skills to move forward positively with their lives.

The centre also has a mock courtroom where they prepare children who need to testify against their alleged abuser.

Stephen Grootes spoke to Miranda Friedmann from WMACA on The Breakfast Show.

We have been running this since 1999, it is completely free to all children and families.

Miranda Friedmann, founder

We have a waiting list at both clinics of about two weeks so we need funds to keep going from now on.

Penny Stein from the Dis-Chem Foundation was struck by the strength and passion of the team who do such remarkable work at Kidz Clinic.

She pledged R120 000 in support from Dis-Chem to the clinic over the next year as a Random Act of Kindness.
