Yunus Carrim: Parly committee on KPMG not equipped to carry out investigation

Yunus Carrim, chairperson of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance says, the KPMG matter is very complex and the committee is not equipped to carry out a full-scale investigation.

What exactly can we do? We can’t convert ourselves into a commission of inquiry and bring in people like Trevor Manuel, Pravin Gordhan, Tom Moyane and so on. It’s very complex.

Yunus Carrim, chairperson of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance

This comes after Munich Re African unit dropped KPMG as its auditor.

KPMG sacked its South African leadership team last month after it found work the accounting firm had done for companies owned by the Gupta family “fell considerably short” of its standards.

Carrim says the committee will have come to a decision in the next two weeks.
