Mining Charter should be adjusted not scrapped - mining analyst

The relationship between South Africa's Chamber of Mines and the mining ministry seems to have hit rock bottom.

CEO at Chamber of Mines, Roger Baxter says after engaging the Minister of Mineral Resources, Mosebenzi Zwane and the African National Congress (ANC) on its concerns regarding the Mining Charter, the only way resolve the matter is through the courts.

Mamokgethi Molopyane, mining analyst and MD at Creative Voodoo, says in terms of policy, the mining sector is in a crisis.

There hasn't been a time when finalising a mining policy has taken this long in post 1994 South Africa.

The mining charter should be adjusted because if it gets scrapped there'll always be a cloud that the business side of mining rejected transformation says Molopyane.
