Mkhewbane: lessons learned over Reserve Bank 'remedial action'

Mkhwebane was grilled by Members of Parliament (MPs) about her controversial report which directed Parliament to change the Reserve Bank’s mandate.

The Absa-Bankorp matter loomed large over Mkhwebane’s meeting with Parliament’s Justice Portfolio Committee, reports EWN's Rahima Essop.

MPs want to know what was she thinking when she instructed Parliament to initiate steps to change the Reserve Bank's mandate.

Mkhwebane’s investigation into the apartheid-era bailout led her to findings against government and the Reserve Bank.

The report was challenged in court and her remedial action on the the Reserve Bank’s mandate was set aside.

She acknowledged the binding nature of her office's recommendations, since the Nkandla judgment change the legal framework of the Public Protector.

Mkhwebane did not apologise for her report recommendations and the EFF suggested that she should be axed for the bungle.

Take a listen to the EWN update and Mkhwebane speak in her own words:
