Eskom chops legal services head over team building exercise costs

Eskom's head of legal services Suzanne Daniels was suspended this week for an alleged irregular expenditure.

According to EWN reporter Gia Nicolaides, Daniels has confirmed that she received a notice of her suspension and that she has already done her representation.

She took a bulk of staff members to a team building exercise in April and it costs around R50 000. She billed the amount to Eskom and they raised it as an irregular expenditure.

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter

Nicolaides says Daniels suspension raises suspicions because she wrote a report exposing some of the Eskom executives for irregular expenditure for the money paid to to McKinsey and Trillian Capital.

If we weigh it up against the bigger picture it really looks quite suspicious at this stage.

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter

They didn't make just one payment to Trillian, but four, over a two-year period and justified it in a number of ways that Trillian was subcontracted to Mckinsey, which we know is not true.

Eskom released a statement on Thursday stating that it has written to both McKinsey and Trillian, and is taking steps to recover the R1.5 billion.
