Fikile Mbalula: ‘I paid for my own [Dubai] trip’

Police Minister Fikile Mbalula says the Eyewitness News exclusive story about a sporting goods supplier, Sedgars Sports, paying at least R680,000 for a trip to Dubai is malicious and a smear campaign.

An Eyewitness News investigation established that Sedgars Sports allegedly paid at least R300,000 – and possibly as much as R680,000 – for a trip to Dubai by Mbalula and his family last year.

I did not ask the Department of Sport to pay for my [Dubai] trip. I paid for my own trip... I dispute what you have put before me.

Police Minister Fikile Mbalula

The minister also slammed _EWN _reporter Barry Bateman for writing a story which Mbalula argues isn’t based on facts.

I will consult with my lawyers in relation to my rights on the matter of him [Bateman] running the story. You write a story on the basis of facts! I am not going to be dictated to by the media on how and when to respond.

Police Minister Fikile Mbalula

On the political and family killings in KwaZulu-Natal Mbalula said his plan is to administer the guns and make sure they are safe, to ensure guns don’t leave police depots.
