[PICS AND VIDEOS] Heavy storms hit parts of KwaZulu-Natal

UPDATED The storm has claimed the lives of three people, including that of an 8-year-old child.

A storm that hit Durban in the early hours of Tuesday has left a trail of destruction in the city with trees and powerlines knocked over and cars submerged in flood water.

Three dead in KZN storm

Residents are advised not to drive in the storm and stay indoors until the storm had died down. Already some of the major roads are flooded.

According to a statement released by the Ethekwini municipality, the wind is being measured at 70 kilometres per hour and very dangerous.

The South African Weather Service says thunderstorms and heavy rainfall were expected in KwaZulu-Natal. Parts of the roof at Addington Hospital has collapsed and 300 schools have been affected.

The mayhem in Durban comes after severe thunderstorms hit Gauteng province on Monday, killing three people and injuring eighteen.
