Zuma to decide on deployment of SANDF in crime ridden provinces

Spokesperson for the Minister of Police, Vuyo Mhaga says an official request has been made and awaits the President's approval to have the army deployed in the Western Cape as well as Gauteng to help with combating crime and gangsterism in the two provinces.

Cape's townships have been plagued with gangsterism and as a result communities live in fear.

The Police Minister's request for the army come after Premier Hellen Zille made an announcement that she wants the army deployed in the province.

Minister Mbalula says the increase in gangsterism activities in the Western Cape and Gauteng were becoming a matter of huge concern.

The intentions from our side are quite clear that we need the army in the Western Cape in the areas around the Cape Flats as well as in Gauteng.

Vuyo Mhaga, Spokesperson for the Minister of Police

We are hopeful that in the next couple of weeks we will be seeing the army in those provinces but we can't put a time frame as the decision lies with the Minister of Defence as well as the President.
