36 young South Africans take to the skies for the first time with Sakhikamva

The first female Muslim pilot in South Africa, and founder of the Sakhikamva Foundation, Fatima Jakoet, will grant 36 young South Africans the experience of flight for the first time.

Sakhikamva Foundation is an NPO based in Cape Town, involved in aviation awareness and skills development for the youth and children in the aerospace industry.

Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies, Jakoet says they are planning to increase the number from 36 to 80 young people in the near future.

This is not an open event. They go through certain programs of the Sakhikamva foundation... They interact with us at schools and we find these gems in the communities and they get to fly for the first time.

Fatima Jakoet, founder of the Sakhi-kamva Foundation

They have to be doing mathematics and science, be between 16 and 18 years and should have keen interest in aviation - it must be their first time that they fly.

Interested candidates can find out more about the program by visiting their Sakhikamva Foundation website
