Eusebius Opinion: "Let go Kevin Pietersen, you do not own the school"

South African-English cricketer Kevin Pietersen has been criticised for his response to a picture of three Maritzburg College pupils holding up t-shirts showing support for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

An image of the boys holding EFF branded T-shirts on school grounds went viral last week.

Pietersen came out on Twitter, slamming the group for airing their political views while in school uniform.

The Kwazulu-Natal Education Department has since instructed the school to stop a planned disciplinary hearing against the pupils.

Eusebius McKaiser gives his take on the Pietersen's tweet.

Kevin Pietersen is simply experiencing an alienation from a school that he is nostalgic about that no longer exists. Let go, you do not own the school.

Eusebius McKaiser, 702/CapeTalk anchor

There is a deep sense of ownership that is misplaced in what Kevin is saying and I think what is going on here is really a case of 'Oh my goodness they came from the wrong side of the tracks, they are filling our school's and now they are even turning them into political rallies'....that is really the subtext of Kevin Pietersen's tweet.

Eusebius McKaiser, 702/CapeTalk anchor

McKaiser says there is nothing wrong with teenagers expressing their political identities.

Every single day we bemoan the imagined lack of political engagement on the part of young people, and then you have young people who then come out and attempt to be engaging the context within which they live and then we want to shut that down.
