Sadag call centre sees slight volume increase following Wits suicide

With end of year exams just around the corner, challenges around mental health often go undiscussed when young adults enter university and post schooling world.

This weekend the tragic conversation of suicide was once again brought to light when a Wits University student jumped to her death from a building in Braamfontein.

Operations director at The South African Depression And Anxiety Group (Sadag), Cassey Chambers tells Afternoon Drive host, Bongani Bingwa that since the tragic incident, their call centre has been rather busy with students reaching out and seeking assistance.

This time of the year is very stressful and there's a lot of pressure. We have to do so much more to really help students cope better and encourage them to speak out.

Cassey Chambers, Operations director at The South African Depression And Anxiety Group (SADAG)

We need to shift and change that stigma that reaching out for help is weakness.
