On anniversary of state capture report BLSA call for commission of inquiry

It has been one year since former public protector Thuli Madonsela released the state capture report that detailed
how far our country and government had been consumed by corruption and state capture.

Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) has repeated its call for a judicial commission of inquiry into state capture on the anniversary.

For Bonang Mohale, CEO of Business Leadership SA, says that he is still hopeful that a judicial commission of inquiry into state capture will be set up.

If we do not have hope, what else do we have? What South Africans need more than anything now is hope that this too will pass.

The more this ANC led government protect the current president, the more they miss an opportunity to regain trust with the public.

Mohale says that the state capture report was not the first report by Madonsela that exposed corruption in the government. From that, Mohale says we have learnt how the president responds to accusations of corruption.

The modus operandi of this president is to deny everything. He says it doesn't exist, short of just saying it is fake news.

Mohale says that now the timing could be right for the judicial commission of inquiry following the ruling by the Supreme Court of Appeal that the decision to drop the corruption charges against Zuma was irrational.

He adds that it will take time until this entire process is fully done.

There has never been, in the history of this county, a president who is so scandal prone. There has never been a sitting president in this country who is technically under prosecution.
