'Zuma is ticking his bucket list before he gets kicked out' #CabinetReshuffle

The Presidency released a statement on Tuesday tabling the newest changes to President Jacob Zuma's Cabinet.

Political analyst, Mcebisi Ndletyana says the recent reshuffle to Cabinet is not surprising.

I think the President is ticking the last things on his bucket list, he is in a rush to get certain things done before he leaves.

Ndletyana says it appears the President is looking to save Mkhuseli Apleni's job by moving Hlengiwe Mkhize from Home Affairs to Higher Education.

Mkhize suspended Apleni a few months ago while the President was out of the country.

However, Ndletyna also says that Mkhize 'has not really impressed' in all the portfolios in which she has served.

To hire a minister who is hopelessly inefficient is not good, that's partly the reason why Buti Manamela has been put as her deputy to help her.

Blade Nzimande's removal doesn't make sense, says Ndletyana considering that he is not the only Cabinet Minister who's been calling for the President to step down.

He thinks the survival of the tripartite alliance depends on what happens at the December conference. 'If Ramaphosa wins they might stay married to the ANC', he says.

It would be interesting to find out what reason has pushed the President to kick him (Blade Nzimande) out. I guess this means that Blade is now free to energetically campaign for Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ndletyana also weighed in why the President has removed Mmamoloko Kubayi as Energy Minister and replaced her with David Mahlobo, former Minister of state security.

He says Kubayi has been taking her time in signing the nuclear deal with the Russians and Zuma has suddenly realized that time is not on his side as it is not certain Nkosazana Dlami-Zuma will take over from him.

He chose Mahlobo because he has been very loyal to him, he adds.

He is keen to have that deal signed and David Mahlobo is the best person to do that, very loyal to Jacob Zuma. So if anyone is to follow Jacob Zuma's instructions - it is David Mahlobo that we should really be worried about.
