A Parliamentary inquiry into Eskom has officially kicked off.
Members of Parliament (MPs) are hearing from the State Capacity Research Project, a group of academics who have compiled a reference book of alleged instances of governance failure and corruption at Eskom.
Professor Anton Eberhard, who authored the book, says coal prices have escalated, arguably due to corruption and rent-seeking since 2011, reports EWN's Rahima Essop.
According to Professor Eberhard's analysis of the situation, the effect is that electricity prices have increased while services have deteriorated and this is having huge implications for the country and the economy.— Rahima Essop, EWN reporter
Essop says the witness list will not be publicised for security reasons.
