In other words; you’re probably a victim. The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviews Stuff magazine’s Toby Shapshak.

It could be used to create a fake identity.

Toby Shapshak, Stuff

Yes, we’re right to be panicking.

Toby Shapshak, Stuff

We should be really worried… it’s kind of terrifying…

Toby Shapshak, Stuff

A file containing the private data (ID numbers, contact details, addresses, income estimates, etc.) of an estimated 30 million South Africans has been exposed in what appears to be the country’s largest ever data breach.

The file may have been obtained from the Deeds Office.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Stuff magazine publisher Toby Shapshak.

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and/or scroll down for more quotes from it).

A security researcher in Australia came across it.

Toby Shapshak, Stuff

A whole bunch of very personal, very sensitive information…

Toby Shapshak, Stuff

You could pretend to be Bruce Whitfield and spend with gay abandon…

Toby Shapshak, Stuff

The information does appear to be accurate.

Toby Shapshak, Stuff

It’s a rude awakening.
