Mosebenzi Zwane Dubai trip

EWN parliamentary correspondent Gaye Davis says Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane received detailed and tough questions.

Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane was grilled by Members of Parliament (MPs) on Wednesday over allegations of state capture.

MPs tackled Mosebenzi Zwane over the FS dairy farm, his appointment to Cabinet and his trip to Switzerland, allegedly all related to the Guptas.

Gaye Davis, EWN parliamentary correspondent was in parliament.

She reports that Zwane went into the meeting appearing confident that he would be able to deflect the questions posed to him successfully.

This was intended to be a preliminary meeting and not a full scale inquiry by the committee yet. The committee still has to decide how they proceed now.

When they asked him about the details of his trips to Switzerland and Dubai in connection with facilitating the sale of the Optimum Coal mine belonging to then Gupta company, Tegeta. He acknowledged that he'd been to both countries.

Davis says Zwane requested that the should be left to the courts to deal with. She goes on to say there was little effort from the chair to push for an answer on his trips.

She goes on to say the questions put to Zwane were very detailed and tough.

But Zwane said he hasn't an opportunity to deal with the Gupta emails yet and he wanted to know if they'd been validated and if so, where.
