Parliament state capture inquiry

Natasha Mazzone, Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises for the Democratic Alliance (DA) says Brian Dames was a credible witness.

Former Eskom CEO, Brian Dames, who served at the power utility between 2010 and 2014 appeared in Parliament on Wednesday after he was called to give evidence in a parliamentary inquiry into state capture.

Natasha Mazzone, Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises for the Democratic Alliance (DA) sat in on the Public Enterprises Portfolio Committee in Parliament. She says since Dames' departure from Eskom there has been seven CEO's at the state owned utility.

Dames was the first witness called in to by the committee explains Mazzone. She says Dames admitted to meeting a Gupta brother but couldn't recall which one.

After his statement that he couldn't remember which brother he met, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP Floyd Shivambu pulled out his tablet, with an image of the Gupta brothers and asked Dames to point out which brother he referred to.

It was done in a bit of jest but it is quite a serious issue.

I think it was an unfortunate turn that Mr Dames took in giving his evidence because besides that he was a credible witness.

If anyone listened to the testimony given by Brian Dames today, anyway who was any good at their job and stood for good corporate governance was removed. He was left with no alternative but to resign because it became difficult to continue at the entity.

Mazzone goes on to say the testimony given by Dames was quite disturbing.
