[LISTEN] Jennifer Ferguson: I found it impossible to speak out about the rape

Singer and former ANC MP Jennifer Ferguson has come forward with claims that she was raped by current South African Football Association boss Danny Jordaan in 1993.

In a personal blog post published Wednesday, Ferguson relays how she was invited to sing at a dinner hosted by leading South African sports bodies and representative officials at a hotel in Port Elizabeth.

She claims Jordaan accompanied her to her suite when he was made to wait outside, but entered her room and forcefully grabbed her from behind.

Ferguson spoke to Stephen Grootes on the Breakfast Show.

She says she wants her story to continue the conversation around sexual assault and give it precedence.

My decision is to speak truth in order to heal and to go through processes of forgiveness.

Jennifer Ferguson, singer and former ANC MP

There is a voiceless constituency that I feel the story has to resonate with it's not a vendetta, sort of getting back at Danny, that is not my interest.

I as a woman who am empowered, who has been gifted and positioned with resources, if I found it impossible to report or speak out and its taken me this long, think of people that don't have that.

Jennifer Ferguson, singer and former ANC MP

Ferguson says she did not report the incident because she was not sure of how she would prove it.

It was that thing of how do I prove this, I already washed, I was in a complete state of shock.
