'Alleged axing may be a means to disqualify Ramaphosa from presidential race'

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa answered questions in the National Assembly on Thursday amid growing speculation that he may be next to be axed from government.

The Deputy President is playing his cards close to his chest. When asked directly on the matter, he said if he is fired it would be at the pleasure of the President.

Political analyst Karima Brown says everyone will be keeping a very close eye on President Jacob Zuma's next move.

There was speculation that the nature of the axing if it did happen would be intended to disqualify him from even running in the ANC presidential race.

Meanwhile both the British and American law enforcement agencies have the Guptas in their sights. While South African law enforcement agencies are sitting on their hands still.

The Financial Times reported on Thursday that British financial watchdogs had been asked to investigate Standard Chartered and HSBC in connection with possible links to the widening state capture scandal surrounding the Guptas and President Jacob Zuma.

It opened a frenzy of questions. Lord Hain yesterday asking the chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond to look into what the relationship was and whether these institutions were used to launder money and illicit funds linke dto teh family via Hong Kong and Dubai.
