AirBnB working together with CoCT to spread tourism even wider

CapeTalk's Africa Melane spoke to Chris Lehane, Global Head of Public Policy at Air BnB about the partnership they have signed with the City of Cape Town.

According to Lehane, Cape Town Airbnb hosts have been receiving good reviews globally because of the experience they offer guests, particularly in the townships.

We have learned from our guests coming into Cape Town that they are interested in those real and authentic experiences to understand the history, the culture and the people.

Hosts make 97% of the profit and AirBnB only takes 3%.

The whole concept of sharing has its origins here. The concept of Ubuntu began right here and that's one of the reasons our platform is having so much success in South Africa.

Chris Lehane, Global Head of Public Policy and Public Affairs at Air BnB

The partnership with the City will encourage tourists to visit the township more to experience what Cape Town has to offer.

What is exciting about the MOA we have signed with the City and the Mayor is to build on the successes we've made to date in terms of spreading tourism and to take it to the next level.
