Man wants end to six-year marriage after wife refuses to cook for him

According to reports a man has petitioned a court seeking to end a six-year-old marriage after accusing his wife of cruelty and failing or refusing to cook for him.

Geoffrey Matovu is alleged to have filed for divorce in the Family Division of the High Court in Uganda last Thursday, accusing Tryphena Nakiyingi of being abusive and disrespectful to him, which he says has led to an irretrievable breakdown of their relationship.

Standing in for Eusebius McKaiser, 702 host Gugulethu Mhlungu took calls from listeners about their thoughts on Matovu's grounds for filing for divorce.

I think this man is mad. He's stuck in the old age. If she's working and he's working, how can he even have such expectations? Before I married my husband we had this discussion and I told him not to expect a warm cooked meal every single night. Men feel entitled and I don't understand why.

Taz, caller

It's very important for a women to cook for her man.

Johnson, caller

I presume it wasn't a whirlwind romance. I get the feeling, if she's a lawyer, she probably has a stronger character and he feels intimidated. I find it strange that you would openly marry someone who refuses to cook and then end the marriage because they don't cook.
