Activists picket outside London School of Economics for Mahlangu's return to SA

After hearing about the Life Esidimeni tragedy, a group of activists in the UK picketed outside the London School of Economics (LSE) demanding that former MEC on Health in Gauteng Qedani Mahlangu return to South Africa to answer for her actions.

Mahlangu is currently registered as student at LSE.

Act Up Activist Diarmaind Mcdonald says that as soon as they heard about the Life Esidimeni Arbitration, they had to spring into action. They organised the protest in 24 hours.

We want [Mahlangu] to get on the first plane to South Africa, get back, face the questions and give some answers to the families of those involved who lost their lives.

Diarmaind Mcdonald, Act Up Activist

We were totally outraged to know that she was cowering here in London when she should be back, being held to account for her clear responsibility for those deaths.

Diarmaind Mcdonald, Act Up Activist

Mcdonald says that in addition to picketing outside LSE, they also called shame on her name and handed a memorandum to the director of the LSE to take responsibility for one of their students and play their part in getting Mahlangu back to South Africa.
