Cape Town's fire season is fast approaching. During the summer season, wildfires are more prevalent and are difficult to control.
How ready is the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services amid the drought?
CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies speaks to Alderman JP Smith, Mayco Member for Safety and Security about how the City's firefighters are preparing for the fire season.
The first thing we have done is the foam devices, those are the most immediate and obvious solution in terms of killing the fires with the reduced amount of water.— JP Smith, Mayco Member for Safety and Security
We are also focusing on the vacuum tankers. We have acquired four vacuum tankers which allows us to rapidly draw water form an external water source.— JP Smith, Mayco Member for Safety and Security

Smith says they've been working hard in making sure that they are ready for the fire season. He says they have installed Jojo tanks in the beginning of the rainy season and have collected a substantial amount, filled up all the tanks in all fire stations.
