How are you performing on your parenting scorecard?

We’re nearing the end of the year when children will receive their school reports. But, what about parents?

Parents also need to look at their own parenting scorecard to see how they perform.

It’s so exciting when you have children but then there’s also that huge mental responsibility that comes with bringing up other human beings.

Nikki Bush, Creative Parenting Expert

Children remember things differently.

Good can be perceived as negative because you are dealing with human beings says Bush.

We can’t judge ourselves too harshly like that. I always say that every parent will wound their child in some way, shape or form no matter how good your intentions.

Nikki Bush, Creative Parenting Expert

Bush states that in the parenting scorecard, there are 3 As you need to be aiming for and 3 Fs.

First A | Attuned

You need to be attuned to your children. Slow down to observe children and trust your gut feel. You need to stay connected to yourself if you want to stay connect to children says Bush.

When faced with any situation, we need to think it through and we also need to feel our way through the situation.

Second A | Attentive

Bush says that every human being craves attention. Children desperately want to be seen, heard and noticed by their parents.

With that being said, negative attention seeking behavior comes from not getting yes responses in terms of being seen, heard and noticed.

Third A | Acceptance

Bush highlights that the third A is acceptance. As a parent, you have an idealistic picture of you child before they are even born. You have to be happy with what you have and ensure that you don't project unrealistic exceptions onto your children.

We need to accept them for who they are not for just what they do.
