Karima Brown shares the latest in political news.

Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini said on Monday the SA Post Office (Sapo) is not equipped to carry out payments of social grants.

The Post Office will now be contracted only to provide an integrated payment system, including biometrics.

Dlamini moved to defend the procurement process in a media briefing on Monday.

Sassa is expected to appear before Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Social Development and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) on Tuesday.

What comes out of minister Bathabile Dlamini's mouth is questionable at the very least...

Last night Judge Johan Kriegler made a very important point and said that it appears as if the minister either through being misinformed or deliberately trying to again obfuscate the process but get us to CPS.

It seems she is absolutely determined to have CPS agiain as the only organisation that is availabel and capable of dispensing the social grants.

Meanwhile there is a behind closed door meeting in Parliament today involving Trillian, as the probe into Eskom gets underway.

The committee on Public Enterprises did not sit last week as some African National Congress (ANC) MPs tried to scupper the proceedings.
