'Preparations for Free State ANC conference well underway for 1 December'

As the African National Congress (ANC) heads towards its National Conference in December, several of the party's provinces appear divided.

This seems to be the case with the ANC in the Free State, where delays have stalled the party's Provincial Conference.

Disgruntled members insist that the party’s provincial executive committee be disbanded because its term has long expired making it illegitimate and have taken the matter to court.

Its provincial conference will now take place from 1 to 3 December.

Stephen Grootes spoke to the provincial secretary, William Bulwane on The Breakfast Show. He says preparations for the conference are well underway.

We are willing to go through all the processes to ensure that everything is then correct administratively so we are ready to go to conference.

William Bulwane, ANC Free State Secretary

Asked why he has endorsed Nkoszana Dlamini Zuma to take over the ruling party's leadership position, Bulwane says women deserve a chance.

We are saying now women are ready to lead the African National Congress, what is it that we can do now to make sure that women also take part in the ANC leadership.
