Political Desk: Mkhize's 50 day mark to unify ANC a tall order - Karima Brown

Political analyst Karima Brown says African National Congress (ANC) presidential candidate Dr Zweli Mkhize may face a number of challenges in his aims to unite the party.

Mkhize was the second of six official candidates to sit down with Brown in a 702 Town Hall meeting, to provide his perspective on the state of the party and his plans if he is elected to the top leadership position.

Speaking to Brown, Mkhize said he would take 50 days to unify the party if he becomes the leader.

Brown says the problem with Mkhize, is that he hails from a province that is deeply divided.

The ANC in Kwazulu-Natal is meant to be this big block that is supposed to provide the biggest chunk of voting delegates and we know it is far from united. That is his big challenge, but he claims he is the man cut out for the job.

Very much the unity ticket, whether he can do it in 50 days, it's a tall order.
