"SABC board using intimidation tactics by saying strike is unprotected" -BEMAWU

After a long day of meetings with the SABC board, Broadcasting, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union (BEMAWU) says SABC workers will go on strike tomorrow. This despite rumors that the strike by the SABC staff is unprotected.

Hannes du Buisson, BEMAWU president says that this rumour is merely intimidation tactics to hinder staff from striking and insists that the strike is protected.

He adds that after a long, frustrating day of meetings, the board stood firm on no salary increases for the SABC workers.

They continued to say what they have been saying and what we all know - that they don't have money to pay employees a salary increase. We've been saying what we've saying all along - negotiate with us the way you do with other service providers.

Hannes du Buisson, BEMAWU President

According to Du Buisson, the board failed to bring up the salary demands, rather focusing on other elements. Because they have not received an offer on the table, Du Buisson confirms that the strike will happen.
