[LISTEN] Tracker on delay for client looking for his hijacked car and brother

The Breakfast Show team received a call from Milton on Thursday who could not get a case number with the police after his car was stolen and brother kidnapped in a hijacking.

Milton shared that when he called Tracker, he was told the matter would not be treated as a hijacking unless he went to the police station and opened a case.

While there were delays in Milton opening a case, his brother has now been found.

Why could Milton's car not be tracked immediately when he reported the matter?

Stephen Grootes spoke to Ron Knott-Craig, Operational Services Executive at Tracker Connect.

Knott-Craig says they have resolved the matter.

If a car has been stolen we go through a process to activate the recovery action, it is a very stringent protocol that we have set up with the SAPS.

Ron Knott-Craig, Operational Services Executive at Tracker Connect.

We did provide the location to Mr Milton yesterday. We did the security checks and provided him with the location.

Ron Knott-Craig, Operational Services Executive at Tracker Connect.

He explains the process and says a case number is not needed when tracking your vehicle.

We will identify the person calling in and ensure they are an authorised activator, establish certain facts relating to the incident, go through three or four legal questions and then activate the vehicle.

And then a look out is given on the radio, all our recovery teams are notified, SAPS units are notified.

Ron Knott-Craig, Operational Services Executive at Tracker Connect

If we know the position of the vehicle we will give you the position of the vehicle but remember 60% of our devices don't have a GPS location. Whether we can initiate recovery action is dependent on a whole bunch of circumstances.
