SARS apologizes for technical glitch in tax returns SMS

On Friday morning on the Breakfast Show, Stephen Grootes and 702 callers complained about a series of SMS's sent to them by SARS threatening legal action over tax returns in arrears. This despite making payments before the deadline.

SARS has since aplogised.

It says while there are those indebted to the agency, the SMS was sent before the actual due date and was a technical error.

Grootes spoke to Mark Kingon, office of the Group Executive relationship management at SARS.

We are sending an apology SMS today to the people that received it, we did it in error and we do apologise.

This was not sent out correctly and to alert a client before its due and threaten legal action is not the way we want to operate as an organisation.
