South Africans Doing Great Things | Ntsako Mgiba

A Cape Town start-up home security company is revolutionising affordable security in townships.

Home security can be seen as a financial barrier especially in low cost areas.

Gugu spoke to Ntsako Mgiba, a student and the co-founder of Jonga Community Alert Systems. The company has designed an affordable app for home security which came tops in the Santam Safety Ideas campaign earning them R150 000 in prize money.

Ntsako states that the idea came from a personal experience. A family members house was broken into, this had me thinking that if I was notified then something could've been done says Ntsako.

The mechanism of the alarm system includes a hardware and software system. It has both these elements says the co-founder of Jonga Community Alert Systems.

It uses a control panel that you can arm from your cellphone. If there is suspicious activity, then a notification will be sent to your phone says Ntsako.

This device is aimed at assisting families and people living in the township.
