Opinion: Ramaphosa's announcement is good for transparency

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has taken some by surprise after announcing the team he wants to lead the African Natonal Congress with.

On Sunday, Ramaphosa called upon party members to elect Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor as his deputy president in the December elective conference.

Part of his team includes KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairperson Senzo Mchunu as Secretary-General, current Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe as chairperson and Paul Mashatile as Treasurer-General.

Stephen Grootes says this is the first time a presidential candidate has publicly announced his slate ahead of the elective conference, saying it is good for transparency.

You are seeing a real shift in the ANC, what Ramaphosa has done has never been done before, it is surely good for transparency and gives us information about him and what he wants to do. Its a big change from what the ANC used to do with everything being a secret

Stephen Grootes, 702 anchor

This also tells us that this election in the ANC is also a contest of very different political cultures.
