Pandor might not bring in the numbers - political analyst

Political analyst Ralph Mathekga says Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor is a reasonable choice of candidate, to serve as presidential hopeful Cyril Ramphosa's deputy president.

On Sunday, Ramaphosa announced his preferred team with KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairperson Senzo Mchunu as Secretary-General, current Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe as chairperson and Paul Mashatile as Treasurer-General.

Mathekga says while Pandor will inspire confidence in Ramaphosa's campaign, he is concerned Pandor will not bring in the numbers.

Ralph Mathekga, political analyst

I thought that maybe he will pick one of the people who are part of the leading pack, that is Zweli Mkhize and Lindiwe Sisulu, at least those people have been able to galvanize a constituency already.

Political Analyst Dr Somadoda Fikeni chatted to CapeTalk's John Maytham about the team Ramaphosa has announced.

Naledi Pandor is one senior member of the ANC who has not been embroiled in controversies and who is often seen as level-headed in many ways and has some gravitas.

Dr Somadoda Fikeni, political analyst
