Minister Mokonyane vows to prevent W Cape reaching Day Zero #WaterWatch

Minister of Water and Sanitation‚ Nomvula Mokonyane says the department will do whatever it takes to prevent dam levels from reaching 0%.

The situation in the Western Cape is dire as dam levels continue to drop. It is predicted that Day Zero could be reached in March next year.

The ministerial spokesperson Mlimandlela Ndamase says Mokonyane has been in talks with both the City of Cape Town and relevant MECs in the Western Cape.

He says there are a number of interventions that are being considered which includes desalination plants.

The commitment the minister has made is that all efforts will be made to ensure that we are able to make the necessary interventions to guarantee the supply of water to the Western Cape.

He says the additional water supply will be made in line with the current restrictions and will ensure those visiting the province during the December period will have basic water.

The City has been hands-on in ensuring that the tenders for desalination plants are secured and the intervention in as far as the Table Mountains aquifers are concerned ...
