Mbalula believes that some Crime Intelligence officers are spying on him illegally, in order to tarnish his reputation.

This comes after reports of political interference in the unit.

He believes that there are elements within Crime Intelligence mischievously peddling information to journalists and trying to discredit him.

Meanwhile, EWN is in possession of Crime Intelligence records that show that the unit's head Bhoyi Ngcobo now effectively reports directly to Mbalula.

It appears that Mbalula has issued directives to the unit which appear to undermine the recognised chain of command between divisional commissioner, national commissioner and minister.

It’s also alleged that a group of eight Crime Intelligence operatives has been assigned to Mbalula and travel everywhere with him.
