KFC in hot water over pics on Twitter

Pictures - allegedly of staff members at the KFC in Braamfontein, washing chicken on the floor with a hose pipe, has caused quite a stir on social media.

One tweeter dubbed this act 'Kentucky Floored Chicken', while another tweeter stated that KFC have taken their streetwise chicken too far.

The photographer behind the picture, Lerato, called into the station and spoke to 702's Xolani Gwala about what she saw.

The continued reaction has been of disgust and one caller, Shane, said that he was actually at the drive through at one of the KFC's, and has decided to give his meal to his brother.

The MD of KFC Africa, Doug Smart said that they were shocked to see the pictures and immediately closed the store when they started their investigation.

These were discarded chickens never to be sold to customers.

He explained that usually KFC stores put the chickens aside that are not right for sale, based on their standards, and then they are accounted for at the end of the day and discarded. This particular store had kept their 'bad' chickens for the week, and were only discarding them then.

Since this story surfaced, EWN are reporting that the store in Braamfontein has been closed pending investigation.

Yesterday, KFC apologized to the public and invited the media to the Braamfontein branch.

EWN went behind the counters to have a look see at their hygiene practices.
