Approximately 400 firefighters remained in Gordon's Bay throughout the night trying to extinguish a fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon.
Gordons Bay animal welfare clinic was evacuated as a result of the blaze. This is according to the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson, Theo Layne.
He says the fire is currently contained along the R44.

At the moment the fire safety investigators remain on the scene to do a proper assessment of properties that might have sustained some damage due to the fire.— Theo Layne, City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson
We will remain on the scene just to make sure any flare-ups that do occur we will deal with them especially on the urban fringe behind the residential properties.— Theo Layne, City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson
CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies also spoke to the owners of Mary-Anne's Emporium in Gordon's Bay, Mary-Anne and Mark Shearer who lost everything to the fire.
Mark says he is worried about his staff who stayed on the property with them and are now homeless.
