Whitfield (broadcasting from the “Whisky and Spirit Live” festival at the Sandton Convention Centre) interviewed Donald Colville (Global Ambassador for Malts and Reserves at Diageo), Shauna Jennens (Ambassador at The Dalmore) and David Roussier (Owner at Wareghem Distillery).
Colville comes from a family with deep roots in whisky distilling, mainly through operating a supplier to the Johnnie Walker blends.
He is one of Diageo’s foremost experts on all 28 of their single malt distilleries and related sites.
Whitfield asked him about growing up in in Campbeltown in Scotland and his life in the whisky business.
Colville is a “Keeper of the Quaich”, an exclusive and international society founded by the leading Scotch Whisky Distillers to honour those around the world who recognise the nobility of Scotch Whisky by working, writing or speaking on its behalf.
Whitfield was interested to hear from Jennens what it’s like to be a woman in the world of whisky.
After moving to The Dalmore in 2010, she has been instrumental in creating a distillery experience that befits one of the world’s most distinguished single malts.
She travels extensively to promote The Dalmore to discerning audiences worldwide.
Whitfield questioned Roussier on what it takes to run a whisky distillery.
Roussier sells about 25 000 cases per year.
His biggest market is France, where he is based.
Exports make up 20% of his business, with Germany being his biggest export market.
