Either Sassa did not read the CSIR report or they ignored it - Karima Brown

Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe, in his capacity as a Minister on the Inter-Ministerial Committee has moved to deal with the social grants to find a way to rescue the South African Social Security Agency and Post Office grant payment impasse.

The deadline for an agreement to be signed between Sassa and the Post Office has been moved to next Friday.

On Wednesday Radebe said there is a commitment to fast track the agreement.

Political Analyst Karima Brown says it is clear that Sassa may have ignored a CSIR due diligence report giving a breakdown of the post office's ability to pay grants.

The hybrid model that has been put forward and announced by Jeff Radebe yesterday is of course precisely what the former director general Zane Dangor had put together, with the assistance of the then Treasury and the Reserve Bank.

It is very clear that the reason why Sassa insisted that the post office does not have the capacity is either that they did not read the CSIR report or they ignored it.
