As the Life Esidimeni Arbitration hearings continue, more horrific testimony has been heard from family members who lost loved ones.
A woman whose brother died whilst being moved to another facility said a social worker lied to the family, telling them the brother was well and alive although he had in fact been dead for two months.
EWN reporter Masego Rahlaga says another woman testified how her sister's health deteriorated after she was moved to Takalani Home for the Mentally Handicapped.
Officials from Takalani were supposed to come and testify but pulled out last week after consulting their lawyers.
But former Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke says officials from Takalani have to come and testify because it is one of the five facilities that were deemed dangerous by the Health Ombudsmen.— Masego Rahlaga, EWN reporter
Especially, because qualified nurses were not on the premises 24/7 like they are required to be when looking after mentally ill patients. They would knock off at 4pm and they would be no nurses after that.— Masego Rahlaga, EWN reporter
