The DA has accused the SABC of reneging on their agreement that the Broadcasting Agency would broadcast its national congress live on one of its terrestrial channels. Xolani Gwala addressed this issue as it is believed that the editorial policies of the SABC require it to broadcast major political party events.
Xolani spoke to the Head of News at the SABC, Jimi Matthews to explain why the SABC are not going to air the congress.
My team was under the impression that that we were going to broadcast it on channel 404. The DA's team were under the impression we were doing it on SABC 2— Jimi Matthews
The National spokesperson for the DA, Phumzile Van Damme told Xolani that this event is of major political importance and should be broadcast, as this is according to the SABC's editorial policies. The DA filed an application against the SABC, to enforce the broadcast of the congress. This Judgment is pending.
