[LISTEN] Desmond Dube chats to Stephen about The Suitcase

One of the classic South African short stories has been brought to the stage at the Market Theatre.

The Suitcase enjoyed a critically acclaimed five-week tour in the United Kingdom.

It is currently showing at the Market Theatre until 26 November.

The stage production of this classic story by Es’kia Mphahlele is directed by James Ngcobo.

It stars the likes of Siyabonga Twala, Masasa Mbangeni, and Desmond Dube, who is the narrator in the play.

Dube spoke to Stephen Grootes to share the remarkable run of The Suitcase and why you should see this classic play.

It's so relevant today, we still have young people who are very optimistic and they look at life and they say I want to move to a certain area cause my life will get better and then things just go a little South. Its a universal story in that case.

Desmond Dube, actor

Speaking about the cast, Dube describes them as disciplined and talented.

James Ngcobo was able to put together a team that can tell the story. You have got to come and see the play to understand the amount of talent on this stage.
