The truth of the matter is, we're living in a precarious world with little to no guarantees. Most of our children may experience periods of guaranteed unemployment. Creative parenting expert and co-author of the best-selling book, 'Future-proof Your Child' Nikki Bush chats about preparing your child for the future.
There are no guarantees, it doesn’t matter what you spend on your kids education today, they’re no longer guaranteed a place in University and even if you have a University degree, you’re no longer guaranteed necessarily a job and if you have a job, you’re not even guaranteed a continuous income.— Nikki Bush, Creative parenting expert and co-author of the best-selling book, 'Future-proof Your Child'
Bush states that statistically speaking, a third of the known jobs won't exist in the future, a third will be automated and a third will remain consistent - this ultimately provides a snapshot view of how things are changing.
Some jobs will die and others will be created says the creative parenting expert.
You’ve got to be very adaptable, you’ve got to be resilient, you’ve got to be resourceful, you’ve got to be able to plug yourself into a different part of the organization when your job no longer exists.— Nikki Bush, Creative parenting expert and co-author of the best-selling book, 'Future-proof Your Child'
Life is no longer liner and textbook says Bush - she goes on to mention that there are situations where you need to up skill and relearn so you remain relevant.
Bush highlights that life holds no guarantees so saving and having a side hustle is important. Likening the job portfolio of the youth to that of a Hollywood actor – she makes the analogy that actors are employed when the movie is being made, but when it’s over, they find themselves jobless.
