It’s understood that officers towed an illegally parked car belonging to a member of the church when one of the officers was disarmed, assaulted and left unconscious.

Church leader Derick Sebisi says the church previously approached city officials over limited parking in the area.

The parking is very limited in the city, we have engaged with the officials as well, asking for help because every time we are being harassed by the traffic cops.

Derick Sebisi, leader at the Revelation Church of God

Obviously the church members are human beings as well, they asked why are you doing his to us, we are tired of the way we are being treated.

If the police officer did not draw the gun maybe this thing would have not happened.

MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun has commended the officer for his composure.

In a situation like that it is easy for one to lose their composure but obviously this officer did whatever he had to do. It is very unfortunate that the so called church believe this is how they should be responding to a police officer enforcing a law.

Michael Sun, MMC for Public Safety

This is really unacceptable.

Sun says a criminal investigation has been opened.
