Animal Communicator Jemma Howard helps us understand our fur babies

Animal Communicator Jemma Howard chats to CapeTalk Late Night host Sara-Jayne King about communing with your pets - and how they talk to each other.

She runs a practice in Wynberg, Cape Town called Animal Soul.

Jemma conducted pet readings live on the show.

The first message was from Rosemary her sent in a photograph of her little dog Pixie who she says shakes when she stands. Her vet says it is old age, but she wants to know if her dog is ok.

Pixie is well. I do feel a bit of pain in the back legs. I'm not sure if the human knows this, maybe we can check that out....but otherwise happy.

Jemma does readings in person with animals but explains that she is able to do readings remotely.

I can connect remotely via the image, so I energetically become a part of the animal. If I am hands-on with the dog I can surrogate - which means I use my own energy and body to feel pains within my own being.

She also muscle-tests using her brachialis muscle in her arm.

It helps me differentiate the needs and wants of the animal - to dietary, to emotional, to physical, to pain, to blocked emotions, to crystal healing, to chakra balances, reiki healing...

She explains how she quietens her mind and just listen - and become a part of their energetic being. She says it does take a lot of practice, but anyone can learn to do it.

Caller Irene sent a photo of her dog Benjy, asking Jemma if he is in pain and how she can get him to accept her rabbit and cat.

He says the rabbit keeps messing...and he doesn't like that about the rabbit. The cat doesn't seem to bother him. He is ok with the cat. I feel some slight tension behind my own eyes when I sense if he is in pain. Nothing serious but a bit of a headache...he could be picking up on stresses in the household.

Shandra's dog Tracker had his leg amputated in August and she wants to know if he is ok.

Jemma says tracker senses his phantom leg is still there. He knows it is not there but still accepts it as part of his body, she says.

He still acknowledges it. It's not painful nonetheless. He is an extremely happy boy.
