Former flying phobic, Damon Beard chats to John Maytham about his 'Flying Without Fear' course coming to Cape Town next week.
Beard, who is based in Durban, describes his lifelong fear of flying as debilitating.
I couldn't even go near an airport building it was that bad.— Damon Beard, Flying without Fear
He says he would drop people off at the airport a block away from the terminal.
After missing countless holidays and work functions, he finally decided enough was enough, and began evolving a method to overcome the phobia.
If you sitting in a row in a plane, one in three people are afraid of flying.— Damon Beard, Flying without Fear
He decided to learn how to fly. He believes that understanding how a plane works and all the technology and science involved, has helped him overcome his fears.
The workshops involve airline pilots and psychologists and take participants through every conceivable detail involved in flying.
Flying Without Fear will be holding a workshop in Cape Town. Contact him Damonbeard.co.za or email at Damon@ecr.co.za
