Former director of mental health in Gauteng, Dr Makgabo Manamela, gave evidence at the Life Esidimeni arbitration hearings in Parktown on Monday.
She is one of the key figures in the Esidimeni project in which 143 mentally ill people died.
Earlier on Monday, Manamela tried to apply for a postponement but her application was denied by retired deputy chief justice Dikgang Moseneke.
Masego Rahlaga, EWN reporter, says Manamela had asked for four weeks of postponement and was subpoenaed on the second of November to appear on the 20 November.
Rahlaga adds that Manamela was asked to take the witness stand immediately after she arrived at the hearings.
She was insisting on giving her own story and I think it's because she's been implicated so many times by so many witnesses.— Masego Rahlaga, EWN reporter
