"Corruption in the ANC overshadows the good the party has done"

Over the weekend, ANC veterans met fro a three day ANC stalwarts' consultative conference. There they accused the governing party's leadership of being unable to deal with the corruption and incompetence that they say point directly to President Jacob Zuma's office.

One of the addresses by Professor Njabulo Ndebele, pointed out that there is the potential that the ANC wont exist anymore. He also said that no matter how much one loves the ANC, its time and purpose has come and gone. Read: Struggle veteran Mavuso Msimang suggests ANC takes a lesson from Zimbabwe

Murphy Morobe, ANC veteran who attended the conference says that Ndebele was exceptional in the way it dissected the ruling party's issue and located the heart of the problem.

Clearly whatever [Ndebele] said on that score is something that had resonance with the conference. Because after all even our own leaders like Oliver Tambo have been very clear about the fact that it is important for the organisation to be alive to the forces that always reside, even within its myths, that will always be working towards its own demise and destruction.

When it comes to the corruption surrounding the ruling party Morobe says it is problematic and that it also wipes out so much of the good the party has done for the country. This has changed the perception of the party.

I have absolutely no illusions about the nature of these problems. But the point of the matter is that there's lot of good that have come thought the years of ANC being in government, but it is being overshadowed - both in reality and at time in perceptions.
