WATCH: Prasa to crackdown on lawlessness on trains

Prasa CEO, Lindikhaya Zide says Metrorail will crackdown on lawlessness on and those getting on trains without paying will be dealt with severely.

Zide was responding to a series of videos making the rounds on social media showing Metrorail passengers risking their lives by riding on top of trains or holding onto the sides as there is no room inside the carriages.

He says these measures will be communicated with commuters, letting them know what to expect in the coming weeks.

Zide says the Western Cape is supposed to be operating on 88 sets but it operates on way less daily as a result of vandalism and cable theft. The demand outstrips the supply, he says.

I think the people of South Africa must appreciate that if we don't take very firm action against lawlessness that we are seeing we would not be accountable for criminal negligence.

We know that some of the people that are are getting on the trains are not paying and are taking advantage that our system is open.
