Jessie Duarte: Sweeping changes to ANC's elective conference

ANC Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte says there will be changes during the party's elective conference to be held in three weeks from 16 to 22 December.

Secretary General of the ANC, Gwede Mantashe, announced this week that the party is ready for its December conference.

There will be a shift in the manner in which the Electoral Commission have done things in the past and the party has welcomed it, says Duarte.

What will happen is that we will vote of the president first and conclude that, (then) have the next vote which is for the deputy president and the next vote for the Secretary General and so on.

The only vote that will be on a single ballot will be for the eight additional members and that's usually a huge ballot depending on what comes out of the Provincial General Council (PGC)...

Duarte says this is going to be a lengthy process but the party feels it's worth investing in because it is "transparent and democratic".
